How do you take tax off the invoice for a non-taxable item?

Thanks

Are you talking about waving tax for just a product item - but not the entire invoice?

If you have items that are non-taxable, then you need to create a separate tax group for non-taxed items. Go into settings and tax groups/rates - and create a new tax group called "Tax-Exempt". Don't put anything in it. AvoBase doesn't require that products even exist to sell them - but you can enter them if you want into the products tab.

Once you've created your tax-exempt category you can then add products to your invoices - and use the "Tax Group" dropdown box to select your tax-exempt group. The line item will then be tax-exempt.

Ok I've really been thinking about this all day today and I am not sure if I'm happy with the result.

What items from Avon are tax-exempt?

An individual or organization (company, etc) can be tax-exempt - and AvoBase has this by entire invoice. If you use the tax-exemption - AvoBase requires that you input a Tax-Exempt ID.

Products, OTOH, having tax-exemption is completely different. If you use AvoBase right now as it stands with a tax group that has no tax rates - you won't be able to track products sold that are tax exempt. And keeping track of tax-exemptions are critical - because you are liable for them. If you collect tax from a customer - you have to pay that tax back (to the State, Government, Province, etc). In turn, you must collect tax-exempt IDs in order to pass those on. If you collect tax and keep it, you could be breaking the law.

Can you please give me an example of a tax-exempt product and why?

Ok for the moment you can create a new tax group that is called non-taxed but not add any rates to it. This isn't the answer in the long run so I am going to come up with a better solution. Items that are non-taxed still need to be tracked in some way. But this will work for you for now.
